About the Fabric:Sturdy and affordable 100% hemp linen for historical reenactment clothing and accessories, modern apparel, and projects. This 6-ounce hemp linen is strong, lightweight, soft, and comfortable — ideal for shirts, dresses and undergarments.Linen is a loosely woven plain weave fabric with a history thousands of years old. Historically more often made from flax, but hemp linen has a long history as well. Hemp fibers are longer and stronger than flax, so hemp linin has been prized for its strength and durability.Available in two different weaves and colors: Unbleached Natural Linen, and White Slub Linen. Both are produced by modern methods, but our slub linen attempts to recreate the look and feel of a rustic homespun linen, where the yarns are not of consistent thickness. (Slubs are small irregular lumps which occur randomly along the length of the woven yarns.) Historically slubs would have been viewed as defects, but now they simply add to the character and aesthetic of the fabric. This fabric is NOT pre-shrunk. You will need to wash, dry, and press before cutting any patterns, as there is a decent amount of shrinkage the first time it is washed and dried. After that it is very stable with no additional shrinkage evident in our testing and experience.
