They met in 1554 at a court ball in Blois, France when she was fifteen and he was twenty-one but alas she married another man the next year. This suite became a classic in French literature. Bicephale is a drypoint etching signed in pencil with the blindstamp on Japon papper. Commissioned by P.Argillet, Paris and printed at the Atelier Robbe, Paris 1968. Ref: Albert Field: “The Official Catalogue of the Graphic Works of Salvador Dali” 68-2 H. Pierre de Ronsard ( 1524 – 1585 ) was chief among the French Renaissance group of poets known as La Pleiade and he himself became known as the “prince of poets”. I stand behind my claim of authenticity for this piece as described and will give a full refund if any art gallery expert doubts the authenticity within 90 days of purchase and you return the item to me. See my excellent feedback and satisfied buyers who have bought Dali and other major artists works from me. There are Dali fakes all over eBay, so if you are buying a hand-signed Dali, ensure it is printed on the correct paper for the series and has the correct watermark or blind stamp; solid provenance is also a huge factor and this item has it all! This is a superb price for this piece and well below its normal auction price on the secondary market. Phyllis Lucas was the first female gallery owner in a major American city – a feminist before the word was even coined. Her reputation as a friend and mentor to many important artists is legendary. She and her husband Sidney were master printmakers who had a long productive artistic partnership with Salvador Dali resulting in the extraordinary "Lucas Dalis" which grace the walls of museums and collectors worldwide. This Bicephale print came from the Phyllis Lucas Gallery collection of which I was fortunate to acquire numerous Dali Prints and will be listing others here on eBay in the near future. I will include a copy of my auction invoice as proof of provenance to the buyer.
