Description: "SALTY" NAMED WWII 3rd GENERATION KA-BAR USMC FIGHTING KNIFE W/SHEATH. Some of the most desirable U. S. fighting knives of WWII are the Marine fighting knives made by the Union Cutlery Company (KA-BAR). The first of those were the hot-blued finished so-called "Red Spacer" KA-BAR's which did not hold up well in the hot, humid jungle conditions of the Southwest Pacific islands, like Guadalcanal, where the Marines fought. As a result, for its 2nd generation of Marine fighting knives KA-BAR switched to a gray-blue Parkerized finish, and for its 3rd generation it switched to a gray-black Parkerized finish. It also changed from a rounded to a rectangular pommel peen. This knife is one of those 3rd generation knives, and as the photos show, it is in excellent, but sharpened condition. In addition to being sharpened, it has some surface rust on its guard and pommel. It's blade is properly stamped "KA-BAR" on it left ricasso and "USMC" on its right. It comes with its original sheath, a rare "BOYT/43", which is "salty" because it has the rank, name and serial number of the Marine officer who carried it - "Capt. Joseph Grind O-536007 " - deeply carved into its front. If you have any questions, please ask before buying or making an offer. Thanks.
