Description: These custom made Nickel-Silver plaques were produced at the request of George Sakakeeny-Professor of Bassoon at the Eastman School of Music. He wished to have made available a plaque that was 1.5mm thick- the size of the tip opening he recommends. Most plaques, like the RIEGER, FOX, and many others, are simply way too thick and can cause the front third of the reed to open up after scraping or filing. This can give misleading results, especially when doing the all important tip work. Other plaques, like the flat steel plaques, are too thin, and can cause the front third or tip to close down from the pressure on those areas when using a knife or file. These plaques are also made of a somewhat softer metal (Nickel-SILVER)and will do less damage/dulling to ones knife or file than hard steel plaques or even the extremely hard DELRIN plastic plaques that RIEGER offers.
