Description: ORIGINAL FRENCH DORE BRONZE & MARBLE Sailor at shore Sculpture Antoine Bofill Measures: 4 x 6½ Inches Weights: 1,3 Kg Condition: Very good. This is a very unique piece. You can see the effort on the face. Also the hands and feet are very detailed. and you can imagine the strength or the moment in witch the sailor is. He is throwing the rope to someone nearby. In order to save it The Piece has a very good golden pattina. and the base seems to be hard granite or a dark marble the sculpture is firmly setted at the base by three points. (please see photos) No signature is visible, however this piece was made by a very high skilled sculptor. Looks like the art of Antoine Bofill 1875-1921 famous for his Sailor series, that resembles the rough trade if the fisherman and sailors of that time. The pose is very good, solid. He has another similar sculptures. Antoine Bofill is from Barcelona, and latter went to study to Paris France, the mecca of sculpture at that time. This sculpture has a very good use of light and shadows, the clothes the expresion and even the rope and anchor are made in a superb way.
