Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . Colorful Commemorative Baseball Card issued by Carl Aldana, 2019 Rinaldo Joseph "Rugger" ARDIZOIA ~ 1939-1940 & 1947-1948 Hollywood Stars (PCL) Very Limited Edition FIRST PRINTING of just 50 cards Remember the old Pacific Coast League trading cards - those colorful cards with rounded corners produced by Mother's Cookies back in 1952-53. Well, Carl Aldana has done it once again! He has followed up his attractive 47-card 1950 Sommer & Kaufmann San Francisco Seals set, colorful 73 card set of Seals from the World War II era and 3-card DiMaggio brothers set with several more selected singles, including this one. First Printing This is a first printing offer. Just fifty (50) cards in total comprise the complete run. If a subsequent printing is made, there will be distinguishing characteristic(s) so this First Printing will remain special. The card measures 2-1/4" by 3-1/2" - nearly identical to the early 1950s Mother's Cookies cards which were 1/16" narrower at 2-3/16" by 3-1/2". It is unnumbered and printed on the reverse side is a vintage Hollywood Stars program cover. Like other Carl Aldana commemorative cards, this one looks magnificent mounted in standard 9-pocket collector pages. About The Subject One of but a handful of Italian-born ballplayers to reach the majors, "Rugger" Ardizoia enjoyed a very fine minor league career serving exclusively in the double and triple A levels after his first full professional season (1938) when as an 18-year-old he won 12 of 25 decisions for Bellingham in the Western International League. Seven of Ardizoia's dozen professional seasons were in the Pacific Coast League where he hung his glove up with Seattle, Oakland and two stops at Hollywood. It seems in retrospect that his 123-115 lifetime record ought to have earned him more than a mere single game trial with the 1947 New York Yankees (4/30/47). In 4 seasons with Hollywood "Rugger" posted yearly win totals of 14, 14, 11 and 13. He finished his pro baseball career with two seasons in Dallas of the AA Texas League. His last year was quite successful as evidenced by his 8-3 won-lost record and 2.88 ERA, as he helped the Eagles to a third place finish in the 1951 Texas League pennant race. According to the [2006] Beckett BASEBALL CARD ALPHABETICAL CHECKLIST book, this is only the subject's second-ever baseball card. Condition: Near-Mint or better Shipping OPTIONS are available - YOUR CHOICE of either eBay standard envelope service (ESE) which is cheaper with slower delivery or USPS Ground Advantage (more costly for single cards but much faster delivery). We also offer UNLIMITED singles (up to and including 8X10 inches in size) shipped via Ground Advantage for the one card rate. Both services include insurance but USPS Ground Advantage is considerably quicker, with fewer limitations. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information Our goal has always been to keep shipping costs low. Our primary objective is to sell cards and other things of interest to baseball hobbyists - not make money by overcharging on shipping. If you ever believe you are being overcharged on shipping, please email us and we will double-check the facts of the matter. Thank you! U.S. residents: We combine multiple items purchased so you pay only the shipping on the heaviest item - all other items ship free of charge. (An exception would be if an item must be sent via media/book rate.) All Other Countries: Email us first. Many listings indicate shipment to U.S. or U.S. & Canada only, but we actually ship worldwide. To receive your combined shipping, please wait for us to send you a combined invoice. The eBay checkout system usually displays an incorrect shipping charge. (It is normally too high.) Please do not pay for each item separately; if you pay separately, there is no shipping discount.
