A wonderful Manual wind Ladies 9 carat yellow Gold Rolex watch with hallmarks from Chester (England) denoting the letter Z dating to 1951 from horology’s most famous name. The original dial is signed ‘Rolex Precision’ with Swiss Made at the very bottom the case and the Super Balance movement are both signed Rolex. Recently serviced by a Rolex specialist watchmaker, with no issues to report keeping accurate time and in good running order, ready to treasure and enjoy! Rolex marketed this watch to the Lady who placed perfection before price and "Created by perfectionists for perfectionists" and it's easy to see why when you look at this wonderful sophisticated example. Encased in a 9 carat gold octagonal case which has been preserved remarkably well with a few marks and light wear, the ‘pièce de résistance’ of this piece is of course the octagon case design which has been profusely made and incredibly characteristic defining the watch’s aesthetic. They also add to the watch's proportions quite significantly at a generous height of 32mm from end to end. At 22mm wide this watch is a generous ladies size for the era in which it was made although still very small compared to modern variants - This Rolex is a very rare find, certainly in such good condition, and will simply never go out of style. It is the epitome of style and elegance, not to pass! The Original Dial: The dial is signed Rolex with the applied Coronet sitting proudly below ‘12’ o clock along with ‘Swiss Made’ at the very bottom. This is a unique silvered dial with some patina. Carries raised gold gilt Arabic numerals with matching gold gilt hour and minute ‘lance’ style hands which are in very good condition for the age. Dial has patina and marks commensurate with age and wear - Please observe photographs carefully. Original Crystal: Perspex crystal in good condition for the age. Original Movement: Signed Montres Rolex Precision 17 Rubis Swiss Made Super Balance - Rolex went to considerable trouble and expense to ensure its small Calibre series movements performed equally as well as its larger gents movements, and they succeeded! These are indeed high precision movements and the example here is running beautifully – The high grade 17 jewel hand-wound movement is in incredibly clean and sparkling condition and has been serviced by a Rolex specialist watchmaker with no issues to report, keeping accurate time. This particular movement is in beautiful condition and with similar care and regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years, one can expect this watch to continue to run very happily for many more decades to come! Original Case: This Octagonal case is a very solid two-piece case with a wonderful design. Solid 9 carat yellow Gold case measures 22mm wide excluding the crown, bearing hallmarks and sits 32mm high lug to lug. Has surface hairline scratches associated with precious polished metals commensurate with age and wear. Overall in good condition with no deep scratches or dents. Case Back Cover Outer: The press fit case-back clicks into place with a firm and satisfying ‘pop’, indicating it is a nice tight fit and is of full thickness. Case Back Cover Inner: Inside the case-back is signed R.W.C Ltd (Rolex Watch Company Ltd) with hallmarks for Chester (England) 1951, serial numbered 158777. In Good condition. Aftermarket Strap/Buckle: Good quality aftermarket cord strap band and gold plated clasp. Additional Information; While the gents Rolex Precision was Rolex’s best selling watch throughout the 1950s and ’60s, many will be surprised to learn there was also a ladies Precision, sold at the same time. These made up around 10% of all the Rolex Precisions produced. Half of these were sold on leather straps and half on integral Rolex gold bracelets. These were expensive watches at the time, because it was much more difficult to produce the much smaller 19.7mm diameter Rolex Calibre series movements, to the same required levels of accuracy and reliability as the movements in the larger gents watches. It is not quite so well known that Rolex was actually founded in the UK in London 1905 and it was not until 1919 that the company transferred its base of operations to Geneva, Switzerland. It is also a misconception that the world of luxury watches is a gentlemans one, as the first recorded wristwatch was actually designed for a lady.
