Reviews: Cathy 5.0 out of 5 stars - Verified Purchase This exactly what I thought I would need! Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2023 Size: 35 Inch (Pack of 1) I purchased the leg lifter because I knew I would probably need it for my upcoming surgery , which I later cancelled as Ill tell you later on. I was having revision knee replacement surgery on my right knee because after the first replacement hurt so badly, I wanted my leg amputated after the second day of my first TKA. I was chronically in pain the whole time I wore it- 5 yrs+. After two years, I went investigating myself possible reasons why it would hurt like that and I read about metal allergies. Long story short, it took me three years and five orthopedic surgeons to say that they dont believe in metal allergies until I finally found a surgeon that offered a blood test to test for metal allergies and it costs $435 and its not covered by insurance but I wanted it done anyway .Through the test I found that I am highly reactive to Nickel, and so I had to find a surgeon that used nickel free implants and thankfully I found one. I had the surgery two weeks ago and Im walking without assistance (no walkers or canes) I could not believe how great my new knee felt as I took my first steps on the day of the surgery. I was doing stairs the following day, and I was ready to go home! I practiced using the leg lifter before I went to the hospital and it worked great! As far as any lack of instructions go, it surprises me how people can operate an iPhone without any instructions, yet they dont know how to unfold the leg lifter? I had no problem unfolding it - its straight and it works great. Theres no kinking, bunching or bending as was mentioned in another Reviews. I did use it for one of my post surgery knee exercises for the heel slides. I used it to pull my foot closer to my body to gain more flexion and Im already passed 90 Im like 110 2 weeks after surgery! I expected a lot more pain than what I had after this surgery! And this revision was a three hour surgery instead of a normal two hours surgery. So find a surgeon that you feel comfortable with and you trust, doesnt try to talk you out of what you need. Dont be afraid to say, NO! With one surgeon, I was 4 days away from surgery and I canceled it. Firstly, I never met the surgeon which was a big red flag and then other doctors were telling me about complications that doctor had and some of his patients needed amputations! After I asked his PA, if he does revision total knee replacement, the PA said he does them on a case by case basis. Needless to say, I left there as soon as I could and I was never going back. Update! I just had my left knee transplant surgery 12 days ago (3 months from right knee TKA) and Im still using the leg lifter for 2 PT exercises instead of a towel. Its so much easier than trying to use a towel! My knee is still very tight and doing any flexion exercises dont hurt at all, its just that its so tight, I cant get the bend that I want. I checked my calendar and remembered that I first saw my outside PT 3 weeks from surgery and I was able to sit with my ankles crossed underneath the chair! My therapist kept asking, Doesnt that hurt? I told him it doesnt. I worked really hard on the flexion exercises because I wanted to get full range of motion and the only way to do so was to be consistent and thorough with all exercises they want you to do. I got my flexion angle to 120 degrees which I think is what they want. I was able to put full weight on my surgery leg after surgery when they got me up the day of surgery. Boy, was I scared! Remember my first nickel transplant was extremely painful and I wasnt able to put any weight on my surgery leg. The PT accused me of not trying. I was in excruciating pain because of the unknown nickel allergy. So ladies, if you cant wear cheap pierced earrings, you may want to ask to have the metal allergy test done before surgery. If the surgeons say they dont know about any test, thats most likely because they only do nickel transplants. Surgeons seem learn only on a specific kind of transplant and most are make of nickel. I heard some docs dont believe in the blood tests though. Skin allergy tests dont work because this is an internal transplant and not something that will cause contact dermatitis. So if you need a knee transplant, ask as many questions as you want! If youre not comfortable with the surgeon, go find another. My doctor was my first D.O. surgeon I have ever gone to and I really liked him a lot! Thats not saying that Ill switch to all D.O. doctors, yet I was very happy with him from the first consultation! He spent 15+ minutes with us and thats not normal. Well, as usual, another long review, yet I believe its all important to stand up for yourself and say No! when youre uncomfortable. Ive dealt with some mental health doctors who have a god complex thinking they know better than we do. They dont and when one doc went against our daughters wishes as stated on our MPOA , we got the Patient Advocate involved. They are there to fight WITH YOU against the system! We even were able to talk to the director a long time. Due to ours and others complaints, he didnt last longer at that hospital. Our daughter did not want to take a certain medication because she didnt like how it made her feel and nether did we. So when she told us that her made her take it, we went immediately to the hospital to confront him by going through the Patient Advocate first! Most people dont know about PAs in hospitals, yet they are there and so willingly to help! I really went off topic, yet my mind wont stop when one subject leads to another! Have a great day! ReviewsByGrace 5.0 out of 5 stars - Verified Purchase Perfect Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2024 Size: 35 Inch (Pack of 1) I just had my second hip replacement, and this one was a doozy. I was really trying to not order a bunch of stuff I didn't need, and I was happy to find this outside of the $40-something packages with all the other things I don't need. I was pleasantly surprised to open this and see that there is a metal wire fed through this, making it stiff (not floppy) so I can easily get it on my foot. I envisioned having make several attempts to lasso it onto my foot. I'm sure it probably stated that somewhere, but being in pain I certainly wasn't reading all the details and I had no idea they came like this so I wouldn't have know any other way. For people like me, I took the pic of me holding it in the air to see it comes like this. It's basically nylon dog leash material. It's not the best material in terms of how it's made (dog owners know what im talking about, the dollar store leash's loose nylon vs a $60 nylon leash from PetSmart), but it's not a dog leash so it can be made cheaper. It's perfect for what it is and for what it's used for. It doesn't make it or break it, but it's good to know. Someone may prefer a better nylon one if they're heavier set. This is super helpful during the time where your muscles are weak, but you're supposed to be stretching and exercising. It's perfect to be able to maneuver your leg onto a pillow or slightly to the left or right (because you can't easily do that after this surgery). All that said, I am rating this as a 5-star item for ME and my needs. It's perfect for me. It's super helpful. suzie 5.0 out of 5 stars - Verified Purchase Excellent tool for knee recovery Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2024 Size: 35 Inch (Pack of 1) Works well and easy to slip foot into allow lifting leg. Brenda Young 5.0 out of 5 stars - Verified Purchase Must have for hip surgery Reviewed in Canada on September 7, 2024 I bought this for my sister who had a hip replacement done recently. I was familiar with it because another sister had the same surgery a few months prior and she had one. It is light weight and easy to use. It allows you to easily support your leg while getting in and out of bed without assistance. It folds up as well and also remains straight for use. Jetsetter 5.0 out of 5 stars - Verified Purchase Easy to use and sturdy Reviewed in Canada on October 5, 2024 I didn't think I needed this after my hip replacement surgery, but I am glad I bought it. I am young and strong but felt weak after my surgery, so this helped me get in and out of bed easily during the first couple of days. It was also helpful to have beside my bathtub to have a shower on my bath bench. It's design is simple with a thin metal rod sandwiched between the webbing on the foot hold and though the length of the strap which makes leg lifting easier. I was worried it wouldnt be sturdy enough for him to get into his foot but I was really pleased when it arrived and has a strong wire inside. He finds it very easy to use and super helpful to move his leg with. Would definitely recommend . .
