The articles were written on behalf of, and published under the name of Marx, due in part to Engel's superior English at the time, a fact revealed in their correspondence, though Marx did review and edit the letters. This fact was notably unbeknownst to Marx's daughter, Eleanor Marx Aveling, who edited and penned the work's introduction.
