Description: (Brassica oleracea) A Russian variety of both ornamental and culinary value. Plants produce green, deeply lobed leaves with purple mid-veins. A popular variety for baby greens and a staple for four-season gardeners. Often rated as one of the best tasting kale varieties. 30 days for baby greens, 60 days for mature leaves. 100 seeds per packet. CULTURE: Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Plant seeds 1/4" deep in pre-moistened seed starting mix. Set transplants outdoors just before the last frost, spacing plants 24" in all directions. Baby leaves can be harvested approximately one month after transplanting and mature leaves can be harvested at approximately two months. When harvesting, it is best to clip off individual leaves so the growing tip is not damaged. Plants will tolerate a good deal of frost and their flavor will sweeten with cold weather.
