This is the only known military document to come to auction signed by the scientist who helped the U.S. win WW2. ES-8706E Dr. Louis W. McKeehan, professor of physics at Yale University from 1927 to 1955, Dr. McKeehan, who served as a captain in the Navy in World War had been assistant Naval attaché in London and chairman of the scientific advisory board of Operations Crossroads, the strategic bombing of Japan. His research included radioactivity, discharge in gases, X‐ray crystallometry, ferromagnetism, submarine mines, slow motion spheres in gases and scattering of cathode and beta rays. Dr. McKeehan graduated in 1908 from the University of Minnesota, where he later obtained a PhD. degree. He taught there as an associate professor before World War I, in which he was a technician in the Navy Ordnance Bureau. At Yale Dr. McKeehan directed the Sloane Laboratory of Physics. After becoming emeritus professor at Yale, he was research associate at the Laboratory of Marine Physics in New Haven and Jamestown.
