RARE UNUSUAL LATE 18TH CENTURY 16" AMERICAN BRASS DECORATED/TACKED POWDER HORN

Description: ( CELL PHONE USERS PLEASE CLICK THE "SEE FULL DESCRIPTION" LINK BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS AND PHOTOGRAPHS! ) Rare Large 16" Late 18th Century (1790's-1815) American Carved w/ Brass Spout & Tacked Powder Horn Click images to enlarge Description For Consideration is a Large 16" Late 18th Century (1790's-1815) American Carved and Brass Decorated Powder Horn c1790-1815 Offered to you is this Amazing late 18th to early 19th Century American made Powder Horn with custom brass fittings, including a Beautiful Ornate Solid Brass Spout and Brass Tacks around the border of the cone shaped carved wood plug. This horn was used for large militia military artillery or as well as a large hunting horn from the size. Defiantly a War of 1812 Era piece. The Powder Horn measures an incredibly 16.0 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide plug. It has a very ornate solid brass spout measuring 3.75 inches long and custom fitted with an custom steel link chain that attaches to the neck with a movable twisted band and to the end with a steel fitting nailed into the horn. The base plug is carved in red walnut and has brass tack decorations around the base and one centered on this carved cone shaped plug tip. Quite Interesting and rare in this very large form and design. Condition is quite nice for the age with some usual ware and soiling to the Cow Horn and a with some links of the chain either added or replaced at some point. No Scrimsahaw or makers marks that we can find! A Rare Over-sized Piece with used for Militia Military use or Hunting! Found in an Estate in Up-State New York. This is an Ex-Museum Piece which had previously been on display in a Private Collection in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years!
