Description: This is a rare early registered cover from Alaska, addressed to Utrecht, Holland and then forwarded to Amsterdam. The Juneau postmark is a type 1 postmark, with a rarity factor of 9 (out of 9), dated November 21, 1885. The postmark originally was designed to read Juneau City, Alaska, but before it's use in Juneau the "City" was mechanically eliminated from the CDS in Juneau, leaving smudges on some of the strikes where "City" used to live. Franking is with a strip of five 2 cent banknotes, with a bend between stamps 2 and 3 where there was some partial separation of the stamps. The top four perforation holes are intact between stamps 2 and 3. The backflap is torn and there is mild edge wear. It has not been reduced. The cover will be mailed Priority Mail with tracking.
