Description: This is a stunning bronze sculpture of Triton from Fontana del Tritone which depicts the ancient Greek god of the sea, Triton. This piece is beautifully crafted with intricate details and was originally part of a working fountain (currently one for sale on 1st Dibs) Fontana del Tritone in the Piazza Barberini in Rome was originally created by the famous baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The original fountain, commissioned by Pope Urban VIII, depicts a striking mythical scene of Triton with head back drinking from a conch shell. This sculpture was most likely produced between 1900-1924. At some point it was attached to a marble base, retains its original internal fountain spout. Very unique one of a kind piece.
