Description: Extremely rare SIGNED baseball program / scorecard from the Brooklyn Bushwicks, an independent, semi-professional baseball team that played in Dexter Park, Queens (NYC) from 1913 to 1951 where they opposed the likes of Jackie Robinson, Dizzy Dean, Hank Greenberg, Joe DiMaggio, Satchel Paige, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Negro League greats Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell in exhibition games played during their history. More significantly however, it is VINTAGE pencil signed on the cover as YOUNGSTERS by the three of the five brothers from the Genovese family of Staten Island who played games at Dexter Park; Chick Genovese, George Genovese and Jim Genovese. Of the three signed on this program:Chick played 13 seasons in the minors eventually becoming a minor league manager and scout. He was even signed with the Red Sox. Chick once set an American Association record with 269 consecutive errorless games in centerfield. As a scout, Chick was one of the first big league scouts to travel to the Caribbean where he signed Juan Marichal and the three Alou brothers: Matty, Felipe and Jesus. It is reported that when he was the Manager in Trenton, he taught Willie Mays how to make what would become his famous baseball catch.George played a short stint with the Washington Senators. Followed by a long career as a manager, coach and 43 years as a scout, touted by some as the BEST EVER. He played a major role in signing 40 players who made it to the majors, including: Bobby Bonds, Jack Clark, Chili Davis, George Foster, Dave Kingman, Garry Maddox, Gary Matthews, Matt Nokes and Matt Williams to name a few. In 2003, the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation went to George.Jim played baseball with Staten Island teams and Bayonne semi-pro baseball. He had been signed by the Springfield Indians in the Mid-Atlantic League where his teammates were Jim Hegan and Hall of Famer Bob Lemon. This rare unscored program, circa 1940s signed by three of baseball’s Genovese brothers is a storybook of a past time in the National Pastime. 7 X 10 unopened.
