Description: Rare Antique Student & Faculty Commemorative Paddle Signed - probably from the University of Nebraska. This Paddle belonged to Irvin F. Reed. A search produced some likely info - an Irvin F. Reed was born in Orchard Nebraska in 1903 and died in Auburn AL, in 1966. He was the father of Mary Jo Reed, who went to high school in Auburn, AL. (I got the paddle at the same estate sale in which I bought yearbooks owned by Ms. Reed. The Yearbooks are also listed on eBay.) This paddle was likely from the University of Nebraska: The Top Name on the faculty side of the paddle is O J Ferguson. A search produced the name of Olin Ferguson, who became a professor at Nebraska in 1912 and then Dean of the college of Engineering at there in 1920, retiring in 1949. Given that Irvin Reed's name was on the student side of the paddle, and he was born in Nebraska in 1903, he would have gone to the University of Nebraska around 1921-25, dating this paddle to that period. This is perhaps a Fraternity paddle but I do not know which one - maybe the "Something Sigma Tau"? Seriously, not certain what the first symbol is! The paddle is 2 feet long and 4 inches wide.
