Description: Step back in time with this rare antique Japanese Collar Box, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship from the early 1900s. Crafted from black lacquered wood, this box features a beautiful Hand-painted bird and branches design in orange and gold. In the 19th century (around 1860), Collar Boxes served a practical purpose - keeping collars and cuffs clean when not in use. However, as mass production of clothing became prevalent, the need to separate collars and cuffs diminished, and by the 1930s, these boxes were no longer in production. This particular collar box is a remarkable find, as it includes the elusive lid to the internal center button box, a feature often missing from similar sets. Inside, you'll discover a treasure trove of history with four antique collars from iconic makers such as Parsons & Parsons (Boniface Rubber), Cluett, Peabody & Co (Arrow), and Earl & Wilson’s Red-Man. Additionally, a baggie of collar pins, possibly crafted from brass with mother-of-pearl or similar stones, adds to the charm and rarity of this set. While signs of wear commensurate with its age are evident (please refer to the photos), the overall condition of the set remains remarkably good. The only notable damage is a crack on the lid, which does not detract from its allure and functionality.
