Description: PLEASE NOTE: I am selling a number of watches and parts from several collections I've acquired. They are in various conditions and all are being sold 'AS IS', including this Rare All Original 1925 Elgin USA 16S 7J Grade 480 Reverse Dial Running Strong!, so please read my descriptions carefully before bidding or buying. Also, please read my feedback and note that my BIN prices are usually under the selling point at end of auctions... this watch will look better in your hand than it does in the pics. Your first thought may be that this is a high price for a 7 jewel Elgin...and it is...but these military grade, reverse dial models are becoming increasingly rare, especially in this cool, unrestored condition. It's cased in a low wear, rugged 'A.W.C.Co.' nickel/silver case with minimal surface scratches and only a couple of minor perimeter marks - it's quite attractive. The case is a threaded front and back model, with good threads. The watch winds, sets [stem wind/set] and runs strong, keeping good time, as it has been recently serviced. The visually clean, nickel movement appears all original. It's a Grade 480, Model 7, signed 'Elgin Nat'l Watch Co.' 'USA' '7 Jewels' and serial number '28024056', dating it to approx. 1925. The large, Arabic indices stand out boldly on this naturally aged [yellowed enamel with checking], vintage patina dial, signed 'Elgin USA' and there's a sub second hand at 12 o'clock. I believe the purpose of these reverse dials was so that the watch could be worn around the neck, or from a belt loop and simply 'one-handed', without flipping or turning, to read/time easily, while your other hand was busy doing your job. The acrylic crystal is new, so looks great. This is a very good looking watch and very collectable...if you've been searching for one of these, don't miss this!...you won't be disappointed!
