Description: Rare Vintage NEC PC-8201A Microcomputer Japan w/Case - Works and UPGRADED RAM to 32 kB. Good working condition. The battery case had leaked elements and corroded contacts, thus an external battery block was attached. Comes with an original carrying case. On the bottom of the computer there's a removeable panel for expansion. The socket on the left (ROM0) contains a masked ROM of the operating system and Microsoft BASIC. This is rumoured to contain the last production code written by Bill Gates himself. So far as I've been able to tell it's very good code. No bugs and good speed given the restrictions of the system. The next socket (ROM1) is occupied with what seems to be some proprietary insurance software - did not dig into it. The other slots are populated with aftermarket RAM chips that increase the memory size to 32kB, I believe, judging by the BASIC showing almost 29 kB free.
