Description: Rare and collectible, Michael Lippman’s “The Chatterlings” ; a children’s book published in 1928 (4th ed.) by the P.F. Volland Company based out Joliet, Illinois. “The Chatterlings” is one of 28 childrens books issued as part of the ‘Volland Happy Children’ series, and were reknowned for their high-quality illustrations and charming stories (Johnny Gruelle, known for his creation of ‘Raggedy Ann’ contributed to this series). These Volland childrens books were known not only for their bold, colorful and vivid illustrations but also for their durability, which is clearly apparent in this almost 100 year old treasure. Michael Lippman is known for his creative integration of vocabulary lessons into the story, and you’ll see this in ‘The Chatterlings’. The book is aimed to be read by children 8-12, and ‘can be read TO children 5-8’ ( see small insert, in pics). The book comes with the box and original adverts still inside the book. The book itself is in outstanding condition, though the binding looks a bit loose between pages 66 and 67 (see pics). The box also is in excellent condition with all corners whole and the box illustration looking clean and crisp. There are a few nicks in the upper left corner of the box cover, and a small nick each in the other 3. Some wear marks on the bottom cover (see pics).
