Description: True 1st American printing of this important novel of India and it's struggle for independence, one of the first important novels from India to transcend the western audience, in part thanks to this 1963 publication. Hardcover in dustjacket, both overall very nice. From the home of a tobacco smoker, which leaves the faintest yet inoffensive trace of odor that is not very perceptible, as well as a slight darkening to the color of the DJ spine, also largely neglible. The DJ has a chip at the top and bottom, cutting off the "R" in the authors first name as well as "ons" in the publisher name. Otherwise excellent, with a very small chip on the back panel and some light creasing at the top edge. Binding is quite solid, sturdy, tight, and strong. Interior is clean and free of marks, faintly age toned but not much. DJ now in brodart, an attractive overall copy of the true first edition, with no printings stated beyond the copyright date of 1963, quite uncommon.
