Description: Here is a quilt top in the Steps To The Altar pattern, #3186 as shown in the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns compiled by Barbara Brackman. Pattern is categorized as a Two Patch with equal diagonal division. Design was printed in the Kansas City Star dated March 15,1930. Design is also known as Flat Iron Patchwork and Dish of Fruit. Top is a combination of hand and machine stitching. The blocks are hand pieced, the setting is done by machine. It measures approximately 59" x 70" constructed of 42 blocks placed on point with blue setting squares and triangles. Fabrics are cottons with some being feedsack generally from the 1940s era.
