Quaker Gala Lace TableclothThis is a very nice late 1920's-30's Quaker Lace Tablecloth. It is still in the original box with tags/tissue and as far as I know has never been unwrapped. Naturally it has some wear and tear on the box from being moved around for 90 years, but it's a neat piece of history and a really nice example of a Deco / Depression era table cloth that seems to have been produced in this same style well into the MCM era. My parents were antique collectors and this was in the bottom of a side table from their dining room. This #4370 design number was offered in various sizes, this one being fairly large at 72" x 90". The box for this piece indicates it was produced in the 1920's or the 1930's, the patent date indicates late 1928, so it was likely after that. Historical SnippetsThe Quaker Lace Company, founded in Philadelphia in 1889, became a prominent name in the lace industry by the early 20th century, known for its fine machine-made lace. During the 1920s and 1930s, Quaker Lace produced elegant tablecloths that reflected the decorative styles of the time. These tablecloths were popular for their intricate patterns, often inspired by traditional European lace techniques like Argentan lace, which gave them a timeless appeal. Lace tablecloths from this period were prized for their delicate craftsmanship and detailed designs, made from cotton or rayon blends, which were cutting-edge textiles of the era. Quaker Lace products were known for bringing luxury into everyday homes, providing a perfect blend of form and function, especially during the Art Deco period when decorative arts were flourishing. This tablecloth, dating from the 1920s-1930s, showcases the fine lacework that made Quaker Lace a household name during this period, and it remains a treasured piece of American textile history.
