A copy of this inspirational story will be included with your print. “Stand On the Word” It was a late Saturday evening in a small town not too far from here. A God-fearing woman was caring for her grandchild, Mya. She put her grandbaby to bed and started preparing for her Sunday dinner. While preparing the dinner she realized she didn’t have any butter to put in her famous macaroni and cheese. She checked on her grandbaby and the poor child was sound to sleep so she decided to not wake her and run down to the grocery store on the corner. She figured the entire trip should take no more than 15 minutes tops and the child would never miss her. So she grabbed her sweater and headed out the door. When she got to the store, she ran across a friend from church and they talked for a couple minutes and the grandmother said, “Sis Smith I have to get back home to my grandbaby. She’s asleep and I just ran around here to get a stick of butter.” She didn’t realize that she had left a dish towel next to the stove and the eye was still hot. The towel caught on fire and within minutes the kitchen was engulfed in flames. The crackling of the fire awakened the little girl and she immediately called “Grandma!” As she opened the door to walk down the hallway, the fire was rushing up the hallway. She ran back in the room and closed the door. She ran towards the window and tried to open it, but it was locked and she couldn’t reach the latch to unlock it. So she grabbed a chair to stand in but still couldn’t reach the lock. She looked back and saw the smoke coming in from under the door. As she grabbed a couple books to stack in the chair, she began to cough. She climbed on top of the books that were stacked in the chair and still couldn’t reach the latch to unlock the window. Just then, she heard a voice and the voice sounded like it was right there in the room with her. The voice said, “Remember what Grandma told you. Whenever you find yourself in any type of trouble and it seems to be no way out, STAND ON THE WORD.” So she went back to the bookshelf and grabbed grandmas’ bible and sat it in the chair on top of the other books. She climbed on the chair and stood on the bible and she could reach the latch. She climbed out the window and ran around the house where she saw flashing lights and some men holding her grandmother back. Grandama was crying and screaming “My baby! My baby is in there, somebody help my baby is in there.” The child pushed her way through the crowd and said, “No I’m not Grandma. I’m right here. I remembered what you told me. Whenever I find myself in any type of trouble and it seems to be no way out to-“STAND ON THE WORD.”
