Description: This remarkable two-thousand plus year-old standing male and female couple display a placid countenance; each figure wears a tight headdress, multiple ear ornaments and a nasal ring. The female is nude and her male companion wears a garment covering his lower torso and he holds a ball in his raised right hand. Vent-holes concealed in their ears insured the safe firing of these large, hollow terracotta figures and ample manganese dioxide deposits provide incontrovertible evidence of prolonged interment. The male figure is 12" (30.4 cm) tall, 9" (23 cm) wide, and 4" (10.1 cm) front-to-back; The female figure is 12" (30.4 cm) tall, 8.25" (21 cm) wide, and 4" (10.1 cm) front-to-back; both figures have insignificantly restored to excellent condition.STANDING COUPLEAmeca Etzatlán Jalisco, Mexico Proto-Classic Period, 300 B.C. - 200 C.E.
