Surrender road at surrender field looks about as it did in colonial times. On Octobe 18, 1781, in the afternoon, soldiers of Conwallis' Army marched this way and filed off into this field on the left. This was the place designated for the formal capitulation of troops under the British Garrison. Surrender field itself was the scene of the surrender ceremony of the British troops under the command of Lord Commander Cornwallis on October 19, 1781.
