Description: Portland Maine Museum of Art Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate 183 Domed Portland Light at the PMO Handcrafted on Cape Cod, Made in USA The Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine commissioned Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate 183 in 1982 for their centennial. The lead crystal cup plate was named Portland Light because the architectural motif represents the domed clerestories that allow controlled daylight from above to enter the museum's exhibition galleries. Handcrafted on Cape Cod using time-honored techniques, these 3.5 inch cup plates have subtle variations that highlight the artisan's skill. Each cup plate is crafted using a mold created with a hammer and chisel, and then pressed with molten glass using an antique press. This manufacturing process results in cup plates that are similar yet possess their own distinctive characteristics. Look closely and you'll find the artisan's initials and the Pairpoint trademark within the design. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these versatile art glass pieces can add functionality to your home, serving as catchall dishes for organizing small items or ring dishes to keep your treasured jewelry safe.
