Description: This week I will be listing a number of poetry reading announcement posters published by THE POETRY PROJECT out of St. Mark's Church in New York. Most of these original posters were mailed to the Phoenix Bookshop in New York and have their printed address and postage stamp on the verso. All have been folded for mailing. The Poetry Project has sponsored poetry reading events, concerts and workshops for decades and long ago became the significant sponsor of poetry events in and around New York, especially in the 70's through the 90's. Over the years many famous New York School artists were commissioned to design these posters including folks like Joe Brainard, Rudy Burckhardt, George Schneeman and many more. They have become quietly sought after as the years have gone by, and because of their ephemeral nature and relatively small print runs, most are now very hard to find. Many of these posters were printed simply in black ink, but some were more elaborate and included primary colors. Up for sale is a poster from circa 1976 announcing events at St. Mark's Church such as readings and workshops with Philip Lopate, Rudy Burckhardt, Tony Towle, David Rosenberg, Laurie Anderson, Joan Labarbara, Alice Notley, Paul Violi, Ned Sublette and more. This poster was designed by Mimi Gross Grooms. The poster measures approx. 13 x 19" tall. It has a circular hole at center top for pinning and a small piece of tape adheared to the verso (for mailing). Folded twice for mailing. Printed on thick cardstock. Buyer to pay for media rate shipping. CT residents only, please add sales tax. Shipping may be combined for multiple purchases.
