Description: This was made by Anchor in 1999 in response to demand by sea-faring vessels that wanted to serve the beer. Many marinas around the US would not allow for glass bottle beer sales, so Anchor gave em a package that worked (this was before craft beer in cans was considered acceptable by 99% of breweries--including Anchor). Notice the concave bottom in picture #4. Another picture shows it in the foreground compared to a 12 oz. Glass bottle and you can see that it is slightly more narrow and the lip of the bottle opening is slightly elongated. My friends at the Brewery told me that they were hard to bottle, as the narrower bottle didn't sit tight in the bottling line and the caps were often not fully clamped onto the bottle, causing for leaks and explosions. Anchor did away with it after a short experiment, much to the chagrin of those ferry and other boat business owners. With the few ones I got from the brewery, I used to chill full ones and pull them out of a cooler after asking people across the room if they wanted a beer. I'd then throw them the full bottle from across the room, underhanded, and they would always duck or run away... Then, when it hit the ground, we all laughed... Hey, ya gotta have fun sometimes! I've since decided to create a much smaller display of my Anchor items, so am making this available. With the news that the Brewery is out of business, it's really sad that this 127 year old brewery has closed its doors for good.
