Description: Rare vase in "deserted garden" pattern decorated by Pickard, Mark 7 cir 1912 - 1918. The blank is unknown, and appears to be covered by the Pickard Maple leaf and stamp. Hand painted and artist signed Rean (Maxwell Rean Klipphahn). Rean was one of Pickard's best and most prolific artists. He painted fruits and flowers in naturalistic stylized and conventional formats equally well. His work did not keep him continuously employed at Pickard. In 1915, he opened his own studio just four blocks east of the Pickard Ravenswood Studio, which he maintained into 1917. The vase has two gilt handles. The mid part of the vase is decorated with Klipphahns famous fruits and berries on a pastel background. The handles are painted gold to match the gold band at the top and bottom of the vase. The vase is 5 3/4 inches to top of handles; top diameter is 2 inches (overall width at the handles is 3 1/4 inches) and the base diameter is 2 1/2 inches. Please view all pictures for details. The pictures are made a part of the description. Bio information on the artist is from Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China by Alan B. Reed Please view my other listings.
