About the artist South African artist Peter Sibeko(born in 1940)is known to be a mixed media specialist. His style is that of an abstract depicting figures, animals, and urban life in his own world view. After dropping out of school to help with family finances, Sibeko determined to pursue a career in art. He was noticed for his his natural artistic talent and encouraged by teachers and then fellow artist David Mbele. Sibeko focused on art and spent most of his spare time selling his artworks in places like Johannesburgs Carlton Centre as well as galleries. In 1986, Sibeko decided to open the Soweto Art Gallery in Johannesburg. To him, the art gallery became a central point for other Soweto artists. Sibekohas exhibited in South Africa, Botswana, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.His work is in numerous private collections in South Africa and overseas and is considered highly collectible.
