PETER LORRE - AUTOGRAPH 1949 CO-SIGNED BY: GEORGE CURZON, JOAN HOPKINS, MAISIE GAY - HFSID 101426 PETER LORRE, GEORGE CURZON, JOAN HOPKINS and MAISIE GAY Album leaf signed by Lorre, by George Curzon and Joan Hopkins (who appeared in films with Lorre) and by Maisie Gay Signatures: "Peter Lorre", "George Curzon.1949", "Best Wishes/Joan Hopkins", and on verso "With every good wish/Maisie Gay", 6¼x3½ album leaf. PETER LORRE (1904-1964), became a star in Fritz Lang's 1931 classic talkie crime melodrama, M, in which Lorre portrayed a child murderer. Lorre, who had made his film debut in 1929, would appear in films through 1964 (The Comedy of Terrors, Muscle Beach Party, The Patsy). From 1941-1946, he co-starred with Sydney Greenstreet in ten films, including The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca. He is also well known for playing the ever-polite Japanese detective in eight films of the Mr. Moto series. When that series ended in 1939, Lorre freelanced in villainous roles at several studios, including Columbia, Republic, 20th Century-Fox and Warner Bros. In the early 1960s, he costarred in horror films with Vincent Price and Boris Karloff. English actor GEORGE CURZON (1898-1976) appeared in many films of the 1930s and occasional films thereafter. He played a supporting role in Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), which also featured Lorre. Curzon's last starring role was in The Inheritance (1947); his last appearance was in Woman of Straw (1964). JOAN HOPKINS, also British, made her film debut in We Dive at Dawn (1943) and made her final film in 1950, cast with Peter Lorre in Double Confession. MAISIE GAY (1883-1945) was a British music hall star, a singer and comedienne. She made a few films in the early 1930s, mostly play adaptations, but her fame came from stage performances, including 3 Broadway musicals between 1911 and 1922 and a starring role in Noel Coward's first musical London Calling, a big hit in 1923. She was the first to sing Coward's "There's Life in the Old Girl Yet." Unlike Curzon and Hopkins, she never appeared with Peter Lorre. These signatures must have been gathered over a period of several years; Maisie Gay died 4 years before George Curzon signed. Jagged at right edge from removal from bound book. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition. See more material from these signers: PETER LORRE MAISIE GAY JOAN HOPKINS GEORGE CURZON See more listings in our ACTORS & ACTRESSES (12,502) category.
