This information on Peter Koster was submitted by Dennis and Natalie Louwers, and was received by them from one of his family members, Thomas Tungate of Plainwell, MI. Peter Koster, born in the Netherlands, received his early education and training in fine art and period decoration from an excellent Dutch trade school. After serving various apprenticeships in Holland, he migrated to this country, making Grand Rapids, MI his home. He worked for fine furniture companies paint decorating furniture and trays and soon became well known. His talents were much in demand. In 1934 he moved to Boston with his career, and gradually became interested in Rockport. He eventually opened his own studio called "Old Harbor Gallery", in Rockport, MA, where he offered instruction in basic and advanced fine art and period decorating. After living in picturesque Rockport he got the urge to paint marine paintings and soon blossomed under the instruction of the late Galen J. Perrett, marine painter. Koster soon entered many art shows and competions and won prizes and awards in exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. He was represented in The Dayton Art Museum traveling show. He was a member of the Copley Society of Boston, Marblehead Arts, and North Shore Art Assoc of Cape Ann. At the age of sixty-five he moved to Port Charlotte, FL where he taught art at Port Charlotte University and offered private lessons at home. He was well received in his new location and was called "One of the world's great artists, he is well known, thanks to his travels, and had commissions for painting from Cape Cod to California"(Fort Myers News Press, 1962).
