Ivy, an astute judge of singers after many years as a disc jockey (WMPS, Memphis, WKDA, Nashville, and WLAY, Muscle Shoals, Ala.) listened to him sing, flipped over When A Man Loves A Woman, and decided to record him immediately. Ivy and Marlin Greene (guitarist and recording man) joined forces to supervise Percy Sledge’s session at Ivy’s Norala Sound Studios in Sheffield. (Greene even played guitar on the session.)
