Description: Understanding the difference between 13-140, 13-200, 13-500 Pinion Gears. These 3 pinion gears are very similar. The look nearly identical because they are the same length, and also have the same outside gear diameter. Firstly, 13-200 and 13-500 both have a 2 I.D. tube, meaning the hollow part in the middle that slides onto the spool shaft is not the same width / diameter throughout the whole length. The hollow tube is wider at the handle side of the pinion, which can be seen in the photos of this listing. That is because when you shift the reel into free spool, and the pinion slides away from the spool (unlocking from the keyed portion of the shaft allowing the spool to spin) - the tip of the handle side spool bearing inserts into the wider portion of the pinion tube. Due to the shaft length these two parts must overlap when the reel is in free spool. 13-140 has a single I.D. tube width, which is because the squidder does not use a sleeve bearing on the handle side. The overlapping described previously does not occur in free spool. I am not certain, but it seems likely that a 13-500 could be used on a Squidder (because both reels have the same spool shaft diameter) but a 13-140 cannot be used on a Jigmaster because the 26-155 sleeve bearing cannot fit into the tip of the 13-140 pinion. The Surfmaster (models 100, 150, 200) uses a spool with a smaller shaft diameter than the Jigmaster and Squidder, meaning the inside tube I.D. (width of hollow portion of pinion) is smaller. Therefore, the 13-200 pinion will not even slide onto the spool shaft of the other two models. A 13-140 or 13-500 will slide onto the shaft of the Surfmaster spool, but will wobble on the shaft because the two measurements don't match perfectly like they should. Took me a while to really understand these differences. I have a very helpful eBay buyer to thank for that. I am now certain all my listings that use these parts are correct, because I have inspected, measured / tested the parts to be sure. Any questions or anything to add here, please send me an eBay message.
