Description: Pedicularis canadensis is a perennial in the Orobanchaceae family. Some familiar names include Canadian Lousewort, Forest Lousewort, or Wood Betony. It is native to North America, found in southeastern Canada, the eastern United States, and eastern Mexico. It likes to grow in mesic to dry forests, woodlands, and prairies. It can grow to a foot tall. It has long, soft, hairy leaves and many of these being basal leaves. It is in bloom from spring to summer. The flowers are tubular and hooded on top of a segmented stalk. The flowers can range in color from a greenish-yellow to purplish-red. They are clustered together on a short little dense spike. Bumblebees pollinate them. It prefers to grow in light shade to full shade with regular water needs. Zones 4-11 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover with soil. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
