Description: Pearson's Magazine, May 1897. Number 17. Volume 3. Single monthly softcover issue in original colour covers. Original price sixpence. This issue includes the second instalment of The War of the Worlds (Chapters V-VIII). By H G Wells and illustrated by Warwick Goble. As with the first instalment, Pearson s Magazine advertised the story in red text at the top of the cover. (See image: the text reads INVASION OF THE EARTH BY MEN FROM MARS. See H. G. WELLS New Serial, in this Number. )a rare practice for the magazine before this point. In this issue is the first appearance of the iconic Martian Tripods that cause death and destruction in their path. The serialisation ran from April to December 1897, which contained the complete novel. Single monthly issues of The War Of The Worlds are practically non existent and I could find no other examples online. The condition is very good and all complete. Small amount of loss to bottom of spine end and some wear to corners and edges. All adverts intact. binding good and pages bright and clear. A very rare piece of literature history and the first appearance of, what has become a cult following. The book was first published in 1898 and does not include the illustrations. A prized rarity for serious collectors. I am also selling the July issue. Please feel free to contact me for addition pictures or more information
