Description: Here is a rare early autographed 4 1/8" by 5 1/2" page of two 30s and 40s stars, Paulette Goddard (front) and Rosalind Russell (back), from their primes in the early 1940s. Great provenance; still in autograph book. Fan, whose name was "Jim," details that Paulette signed for him Paul Hesse's Studio and that Rosalind signed for him at Columbia Studios. Born in Manhattan and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Goddard initially began her career as a child fashion model and performer in several Broadway productions as a Ziegfeld Girl. In the early 1930s, she moved to Hollywood and gained notoriety as the romantic partner of actor and comedian Charlie Chaplin, appearing as his leading lady in Modern Times (1936) and The Great Dictator (1940). After signing with Paramount Pictures, Goddard became one of the studio's biggest stars with roles in The Cat and the Canary (1939 film) (1939), The Women (1939), North West Mounted Police (1940), Reap the Wild Wind (1942), So Proudly We Hail! (1943) — for which she received a nomination for Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress — Kitty (1945), and Unconquered (1947). Catherine Rosalind Russell (1907 – 1976) was an American actress, comedienne, screenwriter, and singer, known for her role as fast-talking newspaper reporter Hildy Johnson in the Howard Hawks screwball comedy His Girl Friday (1940), opposite Cary Grant, as well as for her portrayals of Mame Dennis in Auntie Mame (1958) and Rose in Gypsy (1962). A noted comedienne, she won all five Golden Globes for which she was nominated. Russell won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1953 for her portrayal of Ruth in the Broadway show Wonderful Town (a musical based on the film My Sister Eileen, in which she also starred).
