Past Patterns 0300 - Mid 1910s Girls Empire Dress with Surplice Waist for 10 Yr

Description: Past Patterns PP#0300Mid 1910s Girls Empire Dress with Surplice Waist Sewing Pattern for 10 Year Old This Girls Empire Dress sewing pattern was originally published by The Butterick Pattern Company.★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★From August 1909 Delineator, page 106, "An empire dress for a little older girl...this dress consists of a surplice waist and a straight skirt. The waist may be made with the high or Dutch round neck and with either of the two styles of one-seam sleeves in the full or shorter length. The straight skirt may be gathered at the top or plaited and stitched in tuck effect. This dress is particularly well adapted to the use of flouncing and bordered goods owing to the straight lower edge of the skirt and the straight edges of the surplice waist. The chemisette of the waist may be made of tucked materials or the plain material trimmmed with lace insertion. If plain goods, as lawn or batiste, are used for the development of this design the skirt might be hemstitched and trimmed with a row of lace insertion, and the edges of the waist might also be finished with insertion. Beading, with dainty-colored ribbon run through, makes a pretty finish for the belt, or the insertion may be used if preferred." It was originally described as a "Girls' Empire Waist Dress with Surplice Waist, in high or Dutch round neck, either of two styles of one-seam sleeves in full or shorter length and straight skirt gathered at the top or plaited and stitched in tuck effect. Desirable for flouncing, bordered goods or other materials."★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★The pattern was design for an age 10 year old girl circa 1909 with Bust size 27”. We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 0300VR Thanks for looking!
