Description: Turn of the century Impressionist Paris Street Scene, St. Germaine Des Pres, by Edwin Frank Scott, listed American/French artist, oil on wooden panel, 14 1/2" by 18 1/8", signed lower right, verso with title and various labels/stamps, magnificently detailed gilded period frame (not original), 15 5/8" by 21 5/8". Artist was born in Buffalo, lived in New York City during the 1880's, and moved to Paris 1895, studying with Alexandre Cabanel at Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited extensively, including Royal Scottish Academy, Salon de la Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, National Academy of Design in New York City. Antwerp Exposition, Art Institute of Chicago, and Carnegie Institute International. He became best known for his Parisian street scenes. Condition very good for age, support shows minor edge damage with losses, tiny loss near signature, evidence of previous back supports to prevent cradling that have since fallen off or been removed, currently slight convex cradling without any panel cracking, scattered minor retouch. Frame has had some minor professional restoration and has had one rail of the rabbet enlarged.
