FEATURES꞉ This padlock has all the right features꞉ Chromed body; hardened shackle; resists corrosion, filing, sawing and prying; weep holes in bottom permit water drainage (reduces freezing shut in cold weather and corrosion in warm weather); difficult to duplicate keys. Because the keys can't be easily duplicated, this padlock is the perfect choice if you need to share access with neighbors, children, babysitters, maintenance people, janitors, condo associations, utility company employees, boyfriends / girlfriends, etc., (knowing they can't drive to the hardware store and have a duplicate key made). LOCK'S DIMENSIONS (50mm)꞉ The lock body measures approximately 1.96" wide (50 millimeters) by 0.78" deep by 1.49" tall (2.92" from the bottom of the lock to the top of the shackle). The shackle measures 0.305" thick. The distance across the inside of the shackle (left to right) is 0.91". The lock, three keys and key ring weigh 9.6 ounces (274 grams) [yes, this lock weighs over ½-pound]. The keys have a large key ring hole in them - - - allowing you to easily add or remove a key. These locks are KR (keyed randomly). If you order two or more locks, the keys to the locks will be different. APPLICATIONS / USES꞉ This 50mm padlock is rugged. We chose to carry this particular lock because the keys are extremely difficult to duplicate - that's why you will receive THREE keys. We know that at certain times, keys must be "loaned" to employees, teenagers or maintenance people꞉ To enter a storage shed, access a gun rack, tool box, gate / garden area, mailbox, storage unit, self-storage unit, barn, electrical equipment, outbuildings, etc. Anytime you loan a key, it provides someone with an opportunity to have a duplicate cut (and return at a later time). In addition, this lock utilizes a round-wafer (detainer disc) keying scheme. The detainer disc concept utilized in this BETOX® padlock is similar to the detainer disc technique used in higher-security Abloy® locks - - - but at a much lower price. OPERATING THIS LOCK꞉ This lock can be a little tricky to use at first. This is typical of detainer disk locks (as there are no lock springs to break, wear out or gum up). When you insert the key, you will need to rotate / wiggle the key back-and-forth as you insert it into the keyway. This is required to align all of the detainer discs. Once the key is fully inserted you will be able to turn the key 180-degrees and open the lock. As this padlock is not spring loaded (again, no springs to wear out, break or gum up) the key is also required to lock the lock. Close the hasp, carefully rotate the key 180-degrees and remove it.
