Description: This GORGEOUS cotton and wool 1830's/1840's jacquard double weave coverlet is all hand loomed, with a center seam, 2" fringe (not included in measurements) on three sides, and eagle corner blocks that show the weaver's name: "Grottman." The colors are red, orange-y red, deep navy blue, and creamy white. The border features urns, flowers, leaves, and cabbage rose. The center floral medallions are unusual, and each is shot through the center with red thread, and there are tiny zigzags in the background. Colorwise each is the reverse of the other. It measures 78" X 82" and is in excellent, remarkable condition, with a couple of small, faint spots and no wear, holes, or fade. The pics just don't do justice to this MAGNIFICENT, SIGNED early 19th century COLLECTOR'S COVERLET - it's even more impressive in real life!
