Description: >Offered here is an old and original 1954 GOOD TIMES magazine, Vol. 1, No. 11, featuring an early modeling photograph of MARILYN MONROE!! Please see all five photos, as they are an important part of my description. This rare and early issue of Good Times magazine measures approximately 7 1/2" x 5" and contains sixty-four numbered pages. This very obscure vintage magazine was published monthly by The Picadilly Books Company in New York City, NY. The magazine's editor was Samuel Roth, a controversial figure in publishing. As the front cover states, the magazine dealt with and was a "Revue of the World of Pleasure", to include nude sunbathing, naturism and the world of pleasure. The magazine features numerous nude photos, cartoons, features and opinion pieces. <>Note: my fourth photo includes an early-in-career pic of Marilyn Monroe!! A fellow eBayer has informed me that the Marilyn M. photograph was taken in 1952, and used in this 1954 issue of Good Times magazine. The caption underneath her photo says: "A Beautiful End To a Beautiful Package". Featured magazine contributors include: Mordecai Jones, Denys Val Baker, Jane Shields, Rex Harrison (based on the caricature of the writer, it sure looks like the acclaimed actor!), Arthur Koestler, John Kieran, John Riddell, William Macharg and Ross Lynn. <>History: Editor Samuel Roth was an American publisher, writer and plaintiff in Roth vs. United States (1957), a key Supreme Court ruling on freedom of sexual expression and whose minority opinion, regarding redeeming social value as a criterion in obscenity prosecutions, became a template for the liberalizing First Amendment decisions in the 1960's. A young Samuel Roth owned a book shop in New York's Greenwich Village in 1920. Roth was incarcerated numerous times, for various "indecent materials possessions". The offered Good Times magazine is an outstanding look back into Roth's "take" on the 1950's and its movement towards erotica, freedom of expression and sexuality. <>Condition: in very *Fine Shape* overall, exhibiting minimal age/handling faults, to include minor cover scuffs.
