Description: #1894 Up for sale is this Original WW1 German Ersatz Bayonet. This bayonet was Captured & Brought back. The named faintley inscribed on the handle is George E Trupke Milwaukee Wis. Trupke likely captured this bayonet from a German prisoner or off the battlefield. He then somehow stamped his name and hometown into the handle of the bayonet. It would be interesting to have talked to Mr. Trupke, since he was a German-American from Wisconsin. Bayonet has some obvious staining, handle is metal, working mortise button, couple very minor chips in blade. Measures approximately 17” unsheathed. Metal scabbard has a few dents but does not affect sheathing. Overall good condition. Captured and named souvenir bayonets are not easily found, this is a one of a kind piece. Age appropriate wear for something over 100 years old. Please look over all the pictures carefully to judge the item for yourself.
