The Republican Party of the Agricultural and Small Peasant People was a Czech and Czechoslovak right-wing agrarian political party, the strongest party in Czechoslovakia for most of the period of the First Republic. After the adoption of the Munich Agreement in 1938, it merged with most of the existing political parties and became the basis of the Party of National Unity. In 1919, it was called the Republican Party of the Czechoslovak Countryside (as shown on the poster here).In Czechoslovakia, the Agrarian Party, which in 1922 adopted the name Republican Party of the Agricultural and Peasant People, gradually became the most influential on the political scene.In 1945, it was not possible to restore it. After the Second World War, the party was specifically banned in Title IX. of the Kosice Government Program, but its majority Slovak members became the basis of the new Democratic Party in 1944, in the Czech lands former party members switched mainly to the National Socialists, partly also to the People's Party and the Communists.The constituent meeting of the exile organization of the party was held in Paris on 27-28 October 1948, but the focus of its activity was in the USA. It was fully subscribed to the political system of the First Republic, rejected the Kosice Government Program and the system of the National Front, and declared resistance to the communist regime (Wiki). Otakar Stafl (1884-1945) was a Czech painter and illustrator.In Prague, he was accepted into the landscape school of Ferdinand Engelmuller.During the First World War, he organized humanitarian actions for the benefit of orphans and war widows and was involved in the public life of his hometown. After the war, he contributed to the construction of the monument to Karel Havlicek and the establishment of the Havlicek Museum. In 1917 he divorced and in 1927 he remarried Vlasta Koskova, at that time a well-known writer of fairy tales and novels for girls.From April 1, 1929, Mr. and Mrs. Stafl were tenants of a cottage near Popradske Pleso in the High Tatras. They initiated the creation of the Symbolic Cemetery at Popradske Pleso under the western wall of peak Ostrva, where they have also had a commemorative plaque since 1947.On February 14, 1945, his studio in Vinohrady was hit by a bomb from Allied aircraft.The Stafl couple perished in the ruins of the house (Wiki).
