Description: Signed H(erbert?) Mondrian Oil On Canvas Desert Landscape An original oil on canvas painting featuring cacti in a desert landscape. Signed lower left "H. Mondrian" possibly the landscape artist Herbert Mondrian (American, 1885-1955) who was known for paintings of deserts. The slightly surreal painting of a desert landscape includes details of the saguaro cactus up close - an artistic skill masterfully accomplished. Examine the close ups to see this is a unique artwork with meticulously applied brush strokes. Framed in a vintage painted wood frame that compliments and enhances the beauty of the art work. Painting is in good condition with a light scratch or two to paint surface (one, notably through the signature); painting measures 20 x 16 inches; the quality wood frame 22 x 28 inches. Biography: Herbert Mondrian (American, 1885-1955) Born in Buffalo, NY on April 24, 1885, was 16 when he moved to NYC with his family. As an assistant to his father, he entered show business there as a stage hand. At 18 he left home to join the Barnum & Bailey Circus where he worked with magicians and soon became an accomplished one himself. In 1909 he returned to NYC to work for Rogers & Hammerstein and later on the R.K.O. circuit. During his 25 years in show business he worked avocationally as a painter, sketching and painting for his own pleasure. Upon leaving show business in 1928, he settled in Los Angeles to become a full-time landscape painter.
