Description: This is an original February 1981 issue of Playboy Magazine (subscription edition), and it's part of an extended collection of magazines we've acquired from longtime collectors. The general condition of individual issues in this extended trove ranges from Superb (the CGC equivalent of a 9 or 10) to "reader" (a CGC 3 or 4). We are listing the issues individually, so we are able to make issue-specific notes regarding condition and content below. Please note that combined product amounts over $35 on a single order from our store get a shipping rebate. Gracing the cover of the February 1981 issue are three former Playmates Terri Welles, Candy Loving, and Sondra Theodore. Welles had captured the solo cover in May the previous year, though she wasn't crowned a Playmate until December. She would also take solo honors in June 1981 when (spoiler alert) she was named Playmate of the Year. Loving had been named a Playmate in January of 1979 and had been something of a brand ambassador for Playboy since then (although she would end this relationship later that year and re-enroll in college). Ms. Theodore was perhaps the best-known face to those who hung around the Playboy Mansion, as she was widely known to have been Hugh Hefner's main squeeze since her Playmate issue in July 1977. The three ladies appear on this cover to tease an article inside on their being roommates (though one wonders how permanent this situation was, given the Hef/Sondra relationship and the fact that the Mansion had an open-doors policy when it came to past, present, and future Playmates). Still, one also wonders if this didn't eventually spark the idea for the series "The Girls Next Door" about 20+ years later. Other pictorials this issue include one on art-photographer David Bailey and his work using his wife as a model, plus an annual reader favorite — a review of "The Year in Sex". The sole fiction contribution this issue comes from Donald E. Westlake. Other content includes the usual cartoons and humor, as well as an interesting article on actor David Carridine, of "Kung Fu" fame. The centerfold is Vicki Lynn Lasseter, and the interview is with late-night talk-show host Tom Snyder. The condition of this issue is, in our opinion, a solid 8 teasing a 9. The sole demerits, such as they are, are a flattened dog-ear in the upper-right corner that also affects the first several pages, and a light amount of handling that's evident if one turns the covers at an angle. Those aside, all pages are present (including the centerfold), the binding staples are secure with no tearing around them, and there are no major creases, folds, or dog-ears (aside from those mentioned). This issue even has several of its subscription-reply cards attached inside, so really — this specimen hasn't seen a lot of handling. We feel this specimen would be a solid addition to any classic collection, and finding one in significantly better condition would be rather difficult. All our issues are shipped in protective polybag sleeves.
