An adherent of the Chicano art movement that emerged in the 1960s, he made his name with bold murals celebrating indigenous Mexican culture with Aztec symbols. The mural on the exterior wall of Lassen Hall at C.S.U.S. has popularized his works. He is also known for creating murals for theWashington Neighborhood Center in Sacramento, the Legal Aid Society and Boalt Hall at UC Berkeley. He has painted hundreds of canvases. He began organizing his works after retiring from the City of Sacramento and participated in a show by Latino artists at the Art Foundry Gallery in Sacramento in 1999. He also created popular paintings depicting Land Park neighborhood monuments, including McClatchy High School, the Tower Theatre, the original Tower Records, and Vic's Ice Cream. Ed passed away in Sacramento, he was known for his warmth and laughter. Ed’s art is being preserved and promoted by the Arte’ Por Vida Foundation, since 2012; created in his honor to continue his passion for art, and his dedication to his Mexican culture.
