Description: Original acrylic painting-Ivan Kupala, sunset. Relief, gold leaf. Ukrainian art. The painting depicts a sunset. Its last rays gild the treetops and illuminate the river bank.Girls are frolicking on the shore. They dance in a circle. When the sun goes below the horizon, the girls will float their wreaths on the water. This is a Ukrainian tradition for Ivan Kupala. Ivan Kupala is an ancient holiday. It was celebrated on the night of July 6-7 with folk festivities, swimming, rituals and fortune-telling.According to tradition, on the holiday of Ivan Kupala, people looked for ferns, because they believed that its flowering would bring special powers. Unmarried girls wove wreaths of wild flowers, inserted splinters into them and sent them down the river. Depending on its position, the fate of the mistress was determined: the longer the torch burned, the longer the girl’s life should be. The owner of the wreath that floated the farthest was supposed to be happy. A drowned wreath meant that there was no imminent wedding in sight. In addition to rituals with wreaths, people bathed in ponds. In addition, couples got married on Midsummer's Day.
