On the rear page is a song, “Little Grey Home in the West”. “Little Grey Home in the West” is a song composed by Hermann Lohr in 1911, with lyrics by D. Eardley-Wilmot. It became quite popular during the early stages of World War I. The song evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing for a peaceful home, far from the troubles of the world. “It’s a Long, Long Way to Tipperary” is a famous British music hall song written by Jack Judge and co-credited to Harry Williams. The song was allegedly composed for a 5-shilling bet and first performed on January 31, 1912. Originally intended as a sentimental ballad for Irish expatriates in London, it quickly gained popularity and became a marching anthem during World War I. The song tells the story of a soldier longing for his sweetheart in Tipperary, Ireland, and it resonated deeply with soldiers and the public alike. The song’s authorship has been a subject of dispute. While Judge claimed sole credit later in life, evidence suggests that Williams had a significant role in its creation, with an earlier version titled "It’s a Long Way to Connemara". Tipperary, often referred to as Tipperary Town or simply “Tipp,” is a charming town located in County Tipperary, Ireland. The town’s name, “Tiobraid Árann” in Irish, means “Well of the Ara,” referencing the River Ara that flows through it. Tipperary has a rich history dating back to medieval times. It became a population center in the early 13th century and was once fortified, although most of the ancient fortifications have disappeared. The town features several historical monuments, including a bronze statue of the poet and patriot Charles Kickham and the Maid of Erin statue, which commemorates the Irish patriots known as the Manchester Martyrs. Population: As of the 2016 census, the town had a population of 4,979.
